| «Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky»
Yaroslavl Order of the Labour Red Banner State Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushinsky has a long and glory history. It is one of the oldest pedagogical educational institutions of Russia. Its history is a century family tree of the disseminator of Reasonable, Kind, Eternal things.
In 2008 our University according to the Order of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin solemnly celebrated the 100-year anniversary. In the letter of appreciation of the Russian ederation.
President D.A.Medvedev due to the occasion of the University anniversary "the great contribution in training and professional development of pedagogical staff" has been noticed. Kind words to the University sounded at the anniversary evening on December 8, 2008 from the scene of the Theater named after F.G.Volkov.
High estimation of the University staff's 100-year work way was reflected in the official rating published in 2010, where our University got the 3-d rate among pedagogical universities of Russia, it was proved that it is one of the leaders of the modern Russian pedagogical education which keeps and develops best traditions of the academic science in solidarity with every-day pedagogical practice.

Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky is a traditional and modern University.
It is traditional because keeps to the traditional ways of teacher's training. It is modern because trends to the universal educational training oriented onto complex person development, spiritual transformation and an active interpersonal dialogue between the student and the teacher in the educational process. The range of the training disciplines is enlarged constantly and made of the up-to-date researches, new management and improvement of learning conditions.
The Pedagogical University is situated in the center of Yaroslavl. Its empire main building which is in Respublikanskaya Street is a historic landmark. It symbolizes great history and perennial traditions of the University. They say that the forms of the University are similar to the forms of the Senate and Synod in Saint-Petersburg. Its classic facade - with a rusticated stylobate bringing columns of the Corinthian order, supporting the attic - is a symbol of solidity, gravity and responsibility, a symbol of continuity.
In the main building there is the University administration, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, a fundamental library, the Blue Hall, one of the Internet-centers, the Center of pre-university training, selection committee.
The Blue Hall is the main auditorium of the University. Here a visitor can see the portraits of the most outstanding University scientists and teachers, the bas-relief of "the Teacher of Teachers" Konstantin Dmitrievich Ushinsky, whose name is given to the University. The Blue Hall is a place for solemn ceremonies, meeting of the University Scientific Council.
The University history is presented in the exhibits of the Museum.
The fundamental library is the biggest book depository of the region. In its collection there are many rare editions, printed books and manuscripts. The most valuable ones can be seen in a reading hall of the Rare Book Department.
Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky has 7 educational buildings. Many of them are situated along the Kotorosl River. In the building which is at the corner of the embankment and Respublikanskaya Street there is the Institute of Pedagogics and Psychology, the University publishing house and printing office. Beside there is a huge building of the Natural-Geographic Faculty. Then there is a botanic garden and the buildings of the Faculty of Physical Training and History, a canteen, a preventive clinic, hostels. Not far from there, there is the building of the Institute of Philology in Kotoroslnaya embankment, 66 - it is the biggest center of humanitarian training. In modern buildings of the pedagogical university there are spacious, light, well-equipped classes and gymnasiums.
To provide the educational process there are 45 laboratories, 35 learning rooms, 18 computer classes.
Nowadays there are about 10 000 students and over 600 teachers in Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky. Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky is a powerful scientific center. Scientific research is being done in 35 directions, are being made fundamental applied researches. Very often they are done in the interdisciplinary way by specialists from different faculties.
The Pedagogical University is one of the biggest educational institutions of the region. It is a serious factor in educational, scientific and cultural life of the region, it has a good reputation.
The University promotes the enrichment of the modern culture in Yaroslavl, improves the cultural climate of the region. The scientists from the Pedagogical University are successful at local history researches.
The Pedagogical University is inseparable from Yaroslavl and from the country in whole.
Education - Broad Horizons
What University gives the highest level of education? Could I find a good job after graduation? How should I choose a proper professional profile? These questions are asked by a school leaver, our applicant.
Education in YSPU has its trademark. It is rooted in scientific researches done by University specialists. The education quantity is provided by high level qualified teachers (among them 100 professors, with Doctor's Degree and 350 Candidate's Degree) and up to date equipments. Education is done in such a way that a student is taught to determine and solve life problems. Topics of graduates' qualifying researches are updated annually due to the region enterprises' interests, are professionally oriented to the graduate's future activity.
The University has good relations with labour market and gives students a good opportunity to unite received knowledge with profession which has a constant society request. Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University graduates, due to the statistics data, practically have no problems with employment. The majority of graduates go to school or pre-school education institutions of Yaroslavl. Graduates of aspirantura and doctorantura become the teachers of the University, the educational institutions of the Association "Non-Stop Vocational Education", other Universities and other educational institutions of Russia, many of them work in foreign Universities.

| The Publishing House
The publishing house of the University is actively functioning, it publishes monographs, collections of scientific works, educational and methodical literature, brochures, programmes. The publishing house has editorial division and a printing office. It allows to take all manuscripts recommended for the publication by Chairs and the publishing council of the University to be published.
The important place in publishing of the University is occupied by production published on the decision of the educational and methodical council and it is necessary for the educational activity of students. These are methodical instructions on the organization of students' independent work, the guides to laboratory practical works, programmes of practices, methodical instructions to write course papers and theses, textbooks for applicants, etc.
The publishing house of the Pedagogical University is ready to contact with all who would like to publish the manuscript.

| Levels and Forms of University Training
Possibilities and variants of studying in the University are different.
The Pedagogical University has programmes of pre-university learning for schoolchildren and school-leavers. This training is done at the Center of pre-university training, part-time and full-time schools.
Education in the University can be received at the full-time, part-time and distance departments. Education is multileveled at all the faculties: the levels are - Bachelor, Specialist, Master.

| The University Periodicals
The University publishes some periodicals.
First of all, the scientific magazine «Yaroslavl Pedagogical Bulletin», which makes four editions a year in 3 series: "Psychological-Pedagogical Sciences", "Humanities", "Physical and Mathematical and Natural Sciences". The editor-in-chief of the magazine is Professor V. V. Afanasiev. The magazine is included into «The List of Leading Reviewed Scientific Magazines and Editions» in which the main scientific results of dissertations for a scientific degree of Doctor and Candidate of Science must be published.

Annually each faculty publishes materials of Readings in memory of K.D.Ushinsky.
The University year-book is published where the main events of the University for the last year are presented.
Every year "The Bulletin of Students' Scientific Society" is published.
Since 1932 the newspaper «For Pedagogical Staff» has been issued. It acquaints readers with a panorama of events and opinions, with literary attempts; publishes the official chronicle. The editor of the newspaper: Lyubov Sergeevna Kolesova.

| The Fundamental Library
Our University’s library was founded in 1908. Its funds hold more than 1,200,000 books, including 200,000 published before 1917.
Rare books room
There are 12,000 titles in our rare book collection. Among them are such rarities as Thucydides’ “History of the Peloponnesian War”, printed in Basel in 1540; “Sonnets and Canzonas” by Petrarch (1553); “Lenten Triodion”, printed by Ivan Fedorov’s pupil Andronik Timofeyev Nevezha in 1589; “Sobornoye Ulozheniye” (“legal code”) by Tsar Alexey Mikhaylovich (1649); rare editions of textbooks: “Arithmetic” by Leonti Magnitsky, issued due to a decree of Peter the Great in 1703; “The Russian Grammar” by M. V. Lomonosov printed during lifetime of the author; “The ABC-Book, or the Initial Doctrine to Those Who Want to Study” — the single remaining copy.
More then 18,000 people are readers at our library. The library has six branches and a reading room where anyone can order and read books. An electronic catalog is also available: http://lib.yspu.org

| Distance Learning Department
Since 1931 in Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky there has been the distance learning department which provides a high level of higher education for the young and mature people who do not have possibilities to make it in a traditional form.
At the Distance Learning Department there are more than 3000 students. Every year about 700 specialists graduate from this department.
The Distance Learning Department has the following directions and specialities: History, Journalism, Science of Culture, Philological Education, the English Language, the German Language, Computer Science, Technology and Business, Vocational Training (Economy and Management), Physical Training, Biology, Geography, Social and Cultural Service and Tourism, Pedagogics and Ways of Elementary Education Training, Preschool Pedagogics and Psychology, Music Education, Special Preschool Pedagogics and Psychology, Life Safety, Social Pedagogics, Logopedics, Pedagogics and Psychology, Organization Management, Advertizing; evening (part-time) training - in Linguistics.

Educational Cycle
Training of students at the Pedagogical University lasts from four till six years. Disciplines and elective courses are distributed along the years of training to provide their continuity, to carry out psychological and pedagogical and methodical readiness at the upper courses, and also to react flexibly to students' requirements to new knowledge.
The educational year consists of two semesters. Studies at faculties are organized according to the semestrial schedule. Control over the educational activity of students is done during examinations. Upon the end of examinations the appointment to the scholarships is made. At the end of the academic year students who have successfully taken the curriculum are transferred by the Rector's order to the next course. Students have a possibility to take practice - to check up themselves, to realize theoretical knowledge in real business. Average duration of practice for all period of training is 20 weeks. The practice base can be schools, teachers' colleges, boarding schools, preschool centers, museums, galleries, libraries, advertizing agencies, etc. Annually students have teaching practice in children's recreation camps of the Yaroslavl region and Krasnodar territory. Many students of upper courses continue to work and after the practice, reserving a place for the future employment.
And what about vacation? The total amount of vacation time for the academic year is not less than 7-10 weeks, including two weeks - in winter.
Teachers
The main property of the University is highly skilled teachers, 100 of them are Doctors of sciences, professors. It is a gold fund of the Russian higher school.
Among teachers of the University are 26 full members and member-correspondents of the Russian and foreign academies; four honoured workers of Culture of the Russian Federation, three honoured workers of Higher School of the Russian federation, seven honoured workers of Psychical Training of the Russian Federation, two honoured inventors of the Russian Federation, two honoured doctors of the Russian Federation, nine honoured teachers of the Russian Federation, 62 high achievers of popular schooling, 60 honoured workers of higher vocational education of the Russian Federation. The University invites leading professors and scientists to read lectures from the Russian and foreign universities.
Scientific Researches
The scientific researches done in the University, have fundamental and applied character. High-quality researches are conducted in 35 scientific and pedagogical collectives.
The total amount of financing of scientific researches has exceeded 100 million rubles a year. The collective under the supervision of the Doctor of Chemistry, Professor M.V. Dorogov, nowadays is on the level of introducing results of the researches into industrial production of the newest medical products within the limits of the pharmaceutical cluster created in the Yaroslavl region, has achieved the greatest success. Results of the activity and other scientific personnel impress, they are: the collective under the supervision of the academician of the Russian Open Society, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor V.D.Shadrikov in the field of Psychology, under the supervision of the honored worker of Science of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Art Criticism, Professor T.S. Rozhkov, E.I.Smirnov, O.Ju.Trykova, G.N. Kocheshkov, L.V. Bayborodova, M.A. Terentyev, A.V. Muraviov, A.D. Vikulov, G.Ju. Filipovsky, A.M.Ermakov, E.V.Karpova, O.A.Koryakovtseva, N.N. Letina, N.V. Dutov, T.I.Yerokhina are the most active professors in the edition of monographies.
Teachers of the University take an active part in preparation and edition of various learning-methodical literature. During the last years were published the textbooks by V.V. Afanasiev, E.Ju.Kolbovsky, S.G. Makeeva, Ju.A. Pervin, M.I. Rozhkov, L.N. Sukhorukova, V.A. Shchenev, I.M. Butin, T.G. Kuchina, L.V. Bayborodova, T.F.Chernyakovskaya, N.V. Nizhegorodtseva, A.E.Simanovsky.
Articles of teachers and post-graduate students of the University are published in the magazine "Yaroslavl Pedagogical Bulletin" published by the University, and in leading scientific, literary and art and political magazines of the country, in foreign periodical press. Results of scientific researches are used in the educational process in the form of new lecture courses, special courses, methodical recommendations. and political magazines of the country, in foreign periodical press. International Cooperation
In the University students study not only from Russia, but also from the ex-USSR countries, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, the USA and some European countries. Since 2000 on the basis of the contract with the educational center EMONO-R (Tallinn) distance training of Russian-speaking students and post-graduate students in Estonia was conducted. About 300 students and 30 post-graduate students were taught there. In 2003 the first defense of final qualifying works and Candidate's theses took place. The University annually accepts foreign students for language training and gives opportunity to YSPU students to be trained abroad. Cooperation agreements with universities, colleges and educational centers from the USA, Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Belarus, Bulgaria, Israel, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Japan, Sweden, Italy have been made and operate at the present time.
In 2006 in cooperation with the Higher school of P.Vlodkovitsa Plock (Poland) the University has acted as a founder of the International Institute of Intercultural Communications which conducts a successful educational activity in Poland, Russia and other countries.
According to the contract between YSPU and Middlbury college ( USA, Vermont), at the University every academic year students are taught on the programme "Russian as a Foreign Language", about 20 American students study. This cooperation started in 2008. There are 3 Language Schools of Middlebury College in Russia. School in Yaroslavl is a leading one due to staff's high proficiency and good results achieved by students. The programme "Russian as a Foreign Language" may last 1 or 2 semesters. The programme includes 20 hours of classes per week. The possible courses:

This programme is oriented to students of the different Russian level. Being a student of this programme, the student may choose and attend any course which is studied in our University, in different faculties such as: the Faculty of History, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, the Natural and Geographic Faculty (including Biology, Chemistry), the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the Faculty of Physical Training, Pedagogical Faculty, the Faculty of Russian Philology and Culture, the Faculty of Speech Pathology, the Faculty of Social Management. Since 2011 at the Faculty of Foreign Languages the Japanese language is taught by the native speaker, professor from Nagoya University.
In 2011 the agreement between YSPU and Zhetysu State University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov was signed on academic mobility of teaching staff and students.
Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky is open for all kinds of international cooperation with other universities and organisations.
A Leading Center of Pedagogical Education
The University has a leading role in pedagogical education development in the Yaroslavl region. Development of cooperation with secondary pedagogical schools led to creation of the University Complex in 1992. This complex includes the Pedagogical University and 4 pedagogical colleges in Rostov, Rybinsk, Uglich, Yaroslavl. The main direction of this cooperation is coordinated organisation of the educational process which makes possible for college graduates to get higher education in a reduced period in the University. The structure of the University and colleges includes educational institutions of the preschool, primary and secondary (full) general education: base preschool institutions, base schools, gymnasiums, lyceums. The educational and pedagogical complex is an interregional system of non-stop education which unites all its steps - beginning from preschool education and finishing by doctoral studies.
The activity of the University complex creates growth points for educational institutions which are its members. The University opened its branches in Uglich, Rybinsk and Rostov. In 2003 the University complex was transformed into the Association of educational institutions "Non-Stop Vocational Education".
Its founders: Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky, Rostov Pedagogical College, Rybinsk Pedagogical College, Uglich Industrial-Pedagogical College, Yaroslavl Interregional College of Town Planning and Management, Yaroslavl Industrial Pedagogical College and members of the Association: Bezhets Pedagogical School, Kalyazino Pedagogical School (the Tver region), Velikoustyug Pedagogical School (the Vologda region), Rybinsk Polygraph College (the Yaroslavl region), Kotlas Pedagogical College (the Arkhangelsk region), Syktyvkar Pedagogical College ¹2 (the Komi Republic), Vologda Pedagogical College (the Vologda region).
For the successes which were achieved in teachers' training, in 1971 the Institute was awarded the Order of the Labour Red Banner. New buildings are being built, educational programmes are being developed. In 1993 the Institute was transformed into Yaroslavl state pedagogical university.
The Pedagogical University is a patriarch among higher educational institutions of Yaroslavl. For 100 years 72 thousand experts in education were trained. Graduates of the University successfully worked and work in many fields. Its role in the cultural-public life of Yaroslavl and area is huge.
The considerable contribution into science was made and is being made now by its scientists. It always took part in formation of new higher educational institutions which appeared in Yaroslavl: Medical institute (nowadays academy), Polytechnical institute (nowadays technical university), Agricultural academy, Theatrical institute, University Since 1932 the newspaper «For Pedagogical Staff» has been issued. The Student and the University: before, during and after classe s
The University trains not just a technologically equipped expert, but also aspires to formate a comprehensively developed person. It is being done during the educational process, and out of the classes.
Many students are willingly involved into the scientific activity, scientific conferences which are annually held. Students' works are published in collections of articles of young scientists and in volumes "Yaroslavl Pedagogical Bulletin".
Carrying out of the University Olympic Games on Pedagogics and Psychology became a good tradition. At the University there is the Student's Research Bureau (SRB) which celebrated 35 years in 2010. SRB collective holds annually exhibitions of student's works "the Student and Scientific and Technical Progress". Over the last 5 years students' projects and workings out are marked by the 1-st degree "National Achievement of Russia", 11 awards of the President of the Russian Federation, 27 medals and diplomas of annual international exhibition «NTTM (“Scientific and technical creativity of youth”)» http://nttm-expo.ru/, students published 1100 scientific articles.
In YSPU student's self-management is developed. In 2007 due to the students' initiative the YSPU Students' Council was founded, the staff consists of representatives of the faculties, institutes, student's associations and organizations existing in the territory of the University. The Students' Council makes its contribution to improve the educational process, creates a sphere for students' self-realization. Within the limits of the Council activity such bright projects are realized as "Student's Labour Group", "Press Center", "the Photoclub of 36 Shots". Since September, 2000 in the University the primary organization of the Yaroslavl regional youth public organization "Students' Union" operates which takes an important place in the educational activity of the University. The Students' Union with support of the administration and the department of educational work realizes upto 30 projects in a year of interhigher school, interuniversity and regional levels. Among them regional festival "Valenok-Show", a solemn evening of the active "Ovation", interuniversity competition of theatrical performances "the Whole World - Theater" , etc. In the University there is such a direction of students' creative activity as KVN. At faculties teams are formed from students, post-graduate students and teachers. The best commands are "Bears in PROfile", "Korpus-2", and also young talented commands "Wall on Wall", "Pill".
A traditional event in the University is tournament of KVN commands on "the Prize of the YSPU Rector ". Tournament games are very popular among students. Since 2008 YSPU has acted as a partner and one of organizers of Yaroslavl League of KVN. KVN command "Korpus- 2" became a winner of the League in 2009. Annually this command takes an active part in the international festival of KVN "KiViN" in Sochi, it is a constant participant and a prize-winner of Nizhniy Novgorod KVN League.
During the academic year creative, musical, poetic, sports, military-patriotic events, improving orientation are carried out for students. Any student of the University can take part in these actions. It is a festival "Student's Spring", and the track and field athletics relay race devoted to the Victory Day, and vocal-choreographic competition "Moped", and a tourist meeting "Battlefield", etc.
Since 1962 in our walls there has been a theater of student's miniatures which is supervised by the senior lecturer of Physics Sub-department, the honored worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, G.V.Zhus. The theater is well known not only in Yaroslavl, but also in other Russian cities.
Great attention at the University is given to students' health. There is a sanatorium.
The University helps students to find themselves and get confidence in own forces. It is done with the help of instructors of student's groups, post-graduate students, teachers.
There are scholarships for students who study well. Some students have grants of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation and the Administration of the Yaroslavl region.
